Penny-Farthing Press (PFP) recently announced their plans for special booth events at the San Diego Comic-Con International. Along with exclusive convention specials and artist appearances, PFP will debut two graphic novels and a new series preview several months before they will be available in stores.
“Every year at San Diego has been better than the last,” PFP publisher Ken White said, “so we are looking forward to the 2006 convention.”
All San Diego Comic-Con attendees will be able to stock up on Penny-Farthing Press merchandise at reduced prices. Comic books will be sold at the special price of two dollars each while children’s books and select graphic novels will be sold for ten dollars each. Retailers will be able to receive additional discounts by enrolling in PFP’s Direct-Order-Retailer (D-O-R) Program at the convention and will be able to save up to fifty percent on bulk orders.
Fans and retailers will also have the opportunity to meet some of their favorite PFP talent as well. On Friday, July 21st, bestselling author Barbara Hambly (The Emancipator’s Wife, the Benjamin January mysteries), and breakout artist, Alex Kosakowski, will appear at the Penny-Farthing Press booth at 2:00 p.m. Hambly and Kosakowski have both recently signed to work on the forthcoming PFP graphic novel series, Anne Steelyard, a historical and mystical adventure following the struggles of a female archaeologist in pre-World War I Mesopotamia. Saturday, July 22nd, will feature Captain Gravity and the Power of the Vril writer, Joshua Dysart (Violent Messiahs) and PARA creator and writer, Stuart Moore (Zendra) at a 2:00 autograph session.
The PFP talent will be available to sign books exclusively debuted at the convention for San Diego attendees.
“We’ve debuted books at the San Diego show before,” PFP Editor-in-Chief Marlaine Maddux explained, “and found that Comic-Con fans make the debuts very positive events. Introducing our newly printed books in San Diego this year was planned for just that reason.”
Debuting at the show will be Stuart Moore’s PARA graphic novel, Captain Gravity and The Power of the Vril graphic novel, and the Anne Steelyard: The Garden of Emptiness preview. Also new for Con-goers will be the Decoy: Menagerie, Part 2 anthology, the follow-up to the popular 2005 installment. Fans and retailers will be able to purchase these titles at the convention even before the books will be solicited though major book and comic-book distributors. They will also be able to meet the creative talent face-to-face.
“This is something we do for our fans to show our appreciation,” Maddux continued.
Penny-Farthing Press can be found in the Small Publisher area of the San Diego Comic-Convention at Booth 1321.
Founded in 1998 by Ken White and founding Editor-In-Chief Marlaine Maddux, Penny-Farthing Press employs both veteran and new talent in production of the company’s publication line; a line which has received numerous awards and critical accolades in PFP’s short existence. The prestigious Spectrum Award and the Gutenburg Metal D’Argent for Excellence in Printing are two examples. Furthermore, Penny-Farthing Press only publishes a limited number of titles per year in order to insure quality and a grass roots connection with its readers all over the world. This “boutique” approach is unique in the comics industry and allows only the finest products to leave PFP’s doors. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
