Penny-Farthing Press Wins Recognition in 50th Annual Art Directors Club of Houston Show
Houston, TX–November 23–Penny-Farthing Press (PFP) recently received recognition in the 50th Annual Art Directors Club of Houston Show on November 5, 2005. The event, showcasing Texas talent, awarded three medals to Penny-Farthing Press: the Gold Medal in Editorial Illustration (Captain Gravity and the Power of the Vril™), the Bronze Medal in Editorial Illustration (Stuart Moore’s PARA™), and the Bronze Medal in Self-Promotion/Unpublished Work (the 2005 Penny-Farthing Press Catalogue).
“I’m very excited,” PFP Art Director Charles Hancock commented. “This is a prestigious organization and to even be noticed is a huge compliment. Actually winning medals is unbelievable.”
The Art Directors Club of Houston offers Texas art directors, creative directors, graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, copywriters, and students a forum for skill development and fellowship. Members and affiliates may enter work in a variety of areas including Consumer, Television, and Student Advertising, Logo and Trademark Design, Stationary Package Design, Company Literature Design, Audio/Video Packaging, Signage and Display Design, Pro Bono and Public Service Work, Interactive Design (web, CD-ROM), Editorial, Corporate, and Institutional Illustration, Self-Promotion/Unpublished Design, Corporate, Self-Promotion, and Student Photography.
Seventy-five organizations participated in the 2005 competition, including Penny-Farthing Press. Hancock and PFP Graphic Designer André McBride were on hand at the Houston Zoo event site to accept the awards. Also recognized for contribution to PFP’s winning efforts were Creative Director Trainor Houghton, writers Joshua Dysart and Stuart Moore, and Pencillers Sal Velluto, Claude St. Aubin, Pablo Villalobos, and Federico Zumel.
Founded in 1998 by Ken White and founding Editor-In-Chief Marlaine Maddux, Penny-Farthing Press employs both veteran and unknown individuals in production of the company’s publication line; a line which has received numerous awards and critical accolades in PFP’s short existence such as the prestigious Spectrum Award and the Gutenburg Metal D’Argent for Excellence in Printing.
